Balance Effort Helps Volleyball Push Winning Streak to Six

Newton, MA--- The Lasell College women's volleyball team dropped a three set match to the visiting Engineers of WPI, falling by scores of 26-24, 25-12, and 25-22. The win moved WPI to 17-6 on the season, while Lasell dropped to 6-21 on the season.

Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) and Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) tallied 10 and eight kills respectively for Lasell, who got 22 assists and 12 digs from Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, RI) on the evening.

Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) had a match-high 14 kills for WPI while Holly Ganser (Seward, AK), Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) and Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) each notched six kills in the win. Lauren D'Angelo (Wallingford, CT) and Elyssa Doerfield (Reading, MA) finished with 15 and 10 kills respectively.

Lasell jumped out to an 8-1 and 13-7 lead in the opening set, before a 6-1 run by the visiting Engineers cut the Lasell lead to 14-13. The two teams traded points until WPI took its first lead of the set at 23-22, ultimately winning the set 26-24.

The Engineers opened up an early 7-3 lead in the second set, and cruised to a 25-12 victory in set number two. WPI stormed out to an 8-1 lead in the final set and looked poised to roll to an easy close out set, but the Lasers responded. Lasell scored 10 of the next 11 points to take an 11-9 edge midway through the third set. Lasell continued to push, taking a 16-11 lead and appearing on the brink of pushing the match to a fourth set, but WPI proved to have too much, closing on a 14-6 streak to take the final set 25-22 and close out the match.

Lasell will return to the court on Saturday October 20th for a non-conference tri-match with Babson and Framingham State beginning at 11am. WPI will travel to Wesleyan University for a tri-match with Western New England.
