Volleyball Upended by Emerson in NEWMAC Action

Worcester, MA --- Amanda Linzmeyer (Huntington Beach, CA) and Brittany Schoellkopf (Pacific Palisades, CA) each smashed 16 kills as Emerson went on the road and defeated host WPI 3-1 in a NEWMAC volleyball matchup on Tuesday evening.  The Lions took the match by set scores of 25-14, 28-26, 19-25, 25-22. 

Emerson never trailed in the opening set as Linzmeyer hit .857 with six kills in seven tries.  The second set featured 12 ties and eight lead changes before the Lions staved off a set point with a Elizabeth Reid (Charlottesville, VA) attack at 23-24.   The Lions finally took the set on a kill by Annie Hall (Garden City, NY) and a WPI attack error. 

WPI roared back to take the third stanza by hitting a team match-best .229.  Emerson tallied four of the first five points in the fourth frame and appeared set to cruise to the victory only to see WPI get to within a single point twice late before a pair of trio of Crimson and Gray errors. 

Linzmeyer hit .231 on the night and contributed 26 digs en route to a her third double-double of the season.  Schoellkopf committed two errors in 39 attempts on her way to hitting .359.  Elaine Nichols (Bountiful, UT) doled out a match-best 44 assists while Hall belted seven kills without an error in 22 tries (.318) and Sam Harton (Cartersville, GA) paced all players with 26 digs. 

WPI's Jenny Wallace (Holden, MA) and Shay Feeley (Franklin, MA) amassed double-doubles of their own.  Wallace totaled 14 kills and 13 digs and Feeley handed out 34 assists and 14 digs.  Sam Bircsak (Acton, MA) chipped in with six digs and 14 digs while libero Cassandra Tomerlin (La Quinta, CA) collected a team-high 16 digs. 

WPI is back in action Thursday at 7pm with a conference road match at Coast Guard.  Emerson, who enjoys the conference bye on Thursday heads to Springfield for a 1pm conference match on Saturday with the Pride.
