
Providence, RI --- The WPI volleyball teams dropped a pair of matches Friday at the opening day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational. The Engineers fell 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-15) to Bridgewater State in its opener before suffering a 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23) setback to Plymouth State.
Cassandra Tomerlin (La Quinta, CA) stuffed the stat sheets against Bridgewater State. The sophomore tallied 12 kills, 11 digs and a solo block. Setter Shay Feeley (Franklin, MA) added a double-double of her own with 28 assists and 10 digs to go along with a pair of service aces while Kelly Rathje (Scituate, MA) returned from an injury to contribute 12 digs and two aces.
Ann Kaczowka (Seekonk, MA) had a career-performance versus Plymouth State. The rookie outside hitter posted career highs of 12 kills and 19 digs along with a service ace. Rathje established a new career-standard with 32 digs and chipped in with aces while Feeley finished with 34 helpers, 19 digs and a pair of aces.
The two-day JWU Invitational wraps up on Saturday. The Crimson and Gray face host Johnson & Wales at 10am and square off with Western Connecticut at 2pm.
