WORCESTER -- Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH), Natalia Wierzbicki (Wareham, MA) and Jia Yazon (South Windsor, CT) of the WPI volleyball team were selected to the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The CSC Academic All-America program replaces the former CoSIDA Academic All-America program after CoSIDA recently rebranded its organization as "College Sports Communicators."
Reynolds, a senior All-Region setter, was the key distributor for the Crimson and Gray's offensive attack as she compiled 714 assists, averaging 8.02 per set, to stand fifth in the NEWMAC in both categories during the 2022 season. The biochemisty major sports a 3.90 GPA.
Wierzbicki, a senior middle hitter, totaled 45 block assists and 159 kills to rank second and third respectively for the Engineers this season in 85 sets and 24 matched played. The biochemistry major computes a 3.52 GPA.
Yazon, a junior defensive specialist, logged 92 sets and 25 matches played to lead the Engineers in appearances this season while totaling 40 aces and 257 digs for second and third most on the team. The chemical engineering major boasts a 3.96 GPA.
To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.
