Women's Cross Country Places Fourth at Smith Invitational

Northampton, MA --- The WPI woman registered a fourth place finish at the Smith Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday, totaling 96 points. Taking the top spot in the tough 14 team Event was Wellesley totaling 54 points. NEWMAC foes Smith and Coast Guard rounded out the top three spots with a second and third place showing respectively.  

Engineer senior Vicky Hewey (Sanford, ME) took third place in a field of 153 runners clocking a time of 20:07.17. The Crimson and Gray had two other runners finish in the top twenty with sophomore Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) placing 14th with a time of 20:48.85 and junior Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) finishing 19th in a time of 21:08.54.

A pair of freshman also performed well with Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) placing 23rd in a time of 21:25.36 and Jessica Orr (Westerly, RI) in 42nd with a mark of 22:12.22.

Another duo of WPI underclassman also placed well as sophomore Caitlin Walde (Edmonds, WA) took 42nd (22:44.70) and rookie Haley Dyer (Danvers, MA) 63rd (23:05.48).

The Crimson and Gray compete again when they travel to take part in the UMASS Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
