Tevenan and Newman Propel Women's Cross Country to a Fifth Place Finish at Paul Short Run

Bethlehem, PA --- Paced by a top-10 effort by junior Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) and freshman Emily Newman (Easton, MA), the WPI women's cross country finished fifth in the Paul Short Run white race on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers bested Division II regionally-ranked No. 9 Philadelphia who followed in sixth and No. 8 Southern New Hampshire who posted an 11th-place effort. Locally, Holy Cross was third and Assumption was 32nd in the Brown race.

Tevenan clocked a 22:50 for ninth place while Newman was five seconds behind in 10th with a 22:55. Rookie Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) crossed the finish line in 56th (24:12) and junior Haley Dyer (Danvers, MA) turned in a 24:18, good for 60th. Senior Caitlin Walde (Edmonds, WA) was 68th (24:26) as sophomore Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) was 76th (24:32). Senior Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) shored up the Engineer lineup with a 102nd-place 24:59. 

Also racing for the Engineers on Saturday were rookies Maggie LaRoche (Madison, NH) who was 155th overall (25:58), Gina Capobianco (Colonie, NY) who was 200th (26:34) and Emma MacIntyre (Grand Island, NY) who was 205th (26:48).

WPI treks to Boston for the All-New England Championships on Saturday at Franklin Park.
