Men’s Cross Country Eighth at Star-Studded Purple Valley Classic

Williamstown, MA --- Senior Michael Brady (Medway, MA) led the WPI men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams at Mount Greylock High School.

No. 6 RPI secured the team crown with 41 points. The rest of the top 5 included No. 17 Williams (72), No. 8 Middlebury (103), No. 3 Amherst (118) and No. 7 MIT (127). No. 24 Connecticut College was sixth (225), No. 28 Tufts was seventh (235) and WPI, the ninth-ranked team in New England, amassed 247 points.

Brady delivered a 30th-place 26:43.8 as junior Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) was nine spots behind with a time of 27:02. Sophomore Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) took 54th (27:24.1) to go with a 78th-place 27:44.6 by senior Matt Rabasco (Pittsfield, MA) and an 80th-place 27:47 by classmate  Remington Gaetjens (Limerick, ME).

Graduate student Kyle Gerlach (Smithfield, RI) was just inside the top 100 with a 99th-place 28:09.1 and junior Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) came home 110th (28:16.1) out of 208 entries.

The event also included a sub-varsity co-ed 5K. Freshman Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) led the lineup with a second-place 16:30.2 as the Engineers placed second to Williams.

WPI is off until October 13 when the program heads to the Connecticut College Invitational.
