Women's Cross Country 10th at Competitive Conn College Invitational

Waterford, CT --- Junior Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) delivered a top-12 finish as the Engineers were 10th as a team at the Connecticut College Invitational Saturday at Harkness State Park.

No. 16 Middlebury College won the team championship with 67 points, followed by No. 14 Dickinson with 72, No. 11 Tufts (82), No. 8 Williams (116), and No. 29 Coast Guard (185). Atlantic No. 6 TCNJ took sixth (231) while New England No. 9 Amherst (232) was seventh, South/Southeast No. 4 Washington and Lee was eighth (265), New England No. 10 Colby (278) and the Engineers, who are receiving votes in the regional poll, in 10th (281). No. 18 Brandeis used an alternate lineup for 20th and Trinity, another team receiving votes in the New England poll, was 12th.

Packard clocked a 22:17.6 and was the second NEWMAC runner to cross the finish line. Sophomore Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) placed 39th (22:56.8) while graduate student Emily Newman (Easton, MA) was 50th (23:07.4). Senior Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) claimed 67th in a time of 23:24.9 and classmate Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) took 144th (24:38.5). Freshman Emma Hartzel (Littleton, MA) came home 178th (25:13.3) and senior Katie Nugent (Huntington Station, NY) cracked the top seven with a 26:50.4, good for 255th out of 307 entries.

The Engineers head into the postseason beginning with the NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Smith, on Saturday, October 27.
