North Dartmouth, MA --- Paced by David Reynolds (Andover, NH) who took home the runner-up spot in a field of 256, the WPI cross country team finished in third place at the Corsairs Invitational on Saturday morning.
Reynolds crossed the line with a time of 23:58.3 in the 5 mile race to lead the way for the Engineers who finished with 108 points for the third place team finish. UMass Lowell earned a first place showing with 44 points, while Trinity (Conn.) edged WPI with 107 points.
The next Engineer to cross was Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) in 18th place (25:06.6), while Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) finished 26th with a time of 25:13.6. Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) logged a 26th-place showing (25:18.9) and Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) took 37th place, Alex Simoneau (Attleboro, MA) finished in 65th, and Blake Audibert (Milford, NH) finished 69th to round out the scorers. Thomas Flanagan (Needham, MA) came home in 74th.
In the JV race, UMass Lowell also led the way taking the top-8 finishes on the day. Matt Reynolds (Andover, NH) crossed the finish line in ninth place in a time of 26:14.9 to lead the Engineers who, as a team, came away with a second-place finish with 64 points. UMass Lowell finished with 15 points at the event.
Following behind Reynolds were Ryan Weeks (Cantonsville, MD), and Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) who finished 17th and 18th respectively. While Sean Corman (Waterford, CT), Brendan May (Rutland, MA), Andrew Peyton (Merrimack, NH), and Jack King (Princeton, MA) all came across in the top-25. Corman took 20th, May 21st, Payton 23 and King rounded out the scoring pack with a 25th place finish. Connor Gaudette (Holden, MA) crossed in 31st for the Engineers.
The Engineers will head out to Williams next Saturday, September 25 for the Purple Valley Classic, which will begin at noon.
