Women’s Cross Country Breezes to First Place Finish at Corsairs' Invitational

North Dartmouth, MA --- The success of the WPI women's cross country team continued on Saturday as the team came home with the title at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. 

The Engineers finished with 68 points, besting the field by a significant margin. Brandeis finished second (83), while Mount Holyoke (96) took third. 

WPI was paced by Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) who finished the 5k course in eighth place, in a field of 234, in a time of 18:30. Coming across the finish line just behind Hadley were Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) and Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) who finished in 10th and 12th respectively. 

The trio of Kaylee Gladu (Woonsocket, RI), Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) and Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) came across together finishing 27th, 28th, and 29th.

Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) rounded out the scorers for the Engineers with a 35th place while Michaela Hafford (Holliston, MA) finished in 53rd place.

In the JV race on the day, Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) led the pack, taking home a first place finish in a time of 19:07.5 while helping the Engineers to a second place team finish. The JV squad was edged by St. Anselm's College, who finished with 43 points, to WPI's 45. Coast Guard rounded out the top-3 with 53 points.

Also finishing in the top-10 were teammates Sarah Doherty (Goffstown, NH) and Elie Bowman (Montville, CT) who finished in fifth and sixth place. 

Emma Carroll (Rochester, MA) finished 14th, while Deidra Anderson (Billerica, MA) took home a top-20 finish, coming across in 19th. Abigail Hodges (North Easton, MA) finished 29th and Kayla Condon (Wethersfield, CT) rounded out the scorers in 46th place. 

The Engineers head to Williams next Saturday, September 25 for the Purple Valley Classic, which will kick off at noon.
