No. 25 Women's Cross Country Impressive at Purple Valley Classic

Williamstown, MA -- The No. 25 WPI women's cross country team finished with a fifth place performance at the Purple Valley Cross Country Invite on Saturday afternoon. 

Host-team and No. 8 Williams came away with the race title (52 points), followed by No. 6 MIT in second place (64), No. 11 Tufts in third place (79) and No. 13 Middlebury in fourth place (105), followed by the Engineers (123). 

WPI was paced by Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) who turned in a top-10 performance coming across in ninth place in 24:01.9 in the 6K race. 

Following Hadley were a pack of Engineers led by Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) who finished 27th, Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA)  and Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) who crossed in 29th and 30th place respectively, and Michaela Hafford (Holliston, MA) who finished 33rd. 

Rounding out the scorers were Kaylee Gladu (Woonsocket, RI) and Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) who finished in 53rd and 55th place. 

There were 157 runners competing on the day and 12 collegiate teams. Smith took 6th, Mount Holyoke 7th, Hamilton 8th, New Paltz State 9th, Springfield 10th, Fitchburg State 11th and Framingham State rounded out the pack in 12th. 

The Engineers will be back in action in a couple of weeks when they head to the Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 16. The first race will begin at 10am.
