Waterford, CT --- Led by a 10th place individual finish from junior David Reynolds (Andover, NH), the WPI men's cross country team finished 10th overall at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Park. The deep 26-team field featured eight nationally ranked squads.
Reynolds 10th place finish came in a time of 23:52.9, marking his fourth-straight top 15 finish this season. Following Reynolds, junior Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) raced to a 38th place finish in 25:53.2 with graduate student Ben Steeves (Hollis, ME) finishing 52nd in 26:13.4.
Two other Engineers finished in the top half of the 186-competitor field, as sophomores Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) and Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) both raced well. Gaudette was 65th in a time of 26:26.7 while Brooks came in at 26:45.2 to take 85th place.
Senior Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) was next across the line for WPI, taking 102nd in a time of 27:13.9. Freshman Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) in 27:41.3 (111th) and senior Blake Audibert (Milford, NH) in 28:14.1 (135th) rounded out the WPI runners.
#3 Williams and #4 MIT both vied for the top spot with Williams coming out on top with a team score of 37, including individual champion Aidan Ryan (New York, NY) who clocked in at 23:52.9. MIT settled for second with 43 team points, followed by #18 Middlebury in third with 114. #16 RPI (143 points) and #32 Conn College rounded out the top five. #23 Bates finished sixth overall, with the #34 Engineers coming in ahead of #28 Amherst who finished 11th. Regionally, WPI was fourth among East Regional squads, behind MIT, Bates and Tufts.
In the white race, WPI finished ninth overall, as senior Alex Simoneau (Attleboro, MA) took 34th place in a time of 27:16.1.
The Crimson & Gray harriers will return to action on Saturday, October 30 at the 2021 NEWMAC Championship. The event is being hosted by Wellesley at the Nehoiden Golf Course at 11am.
