Men’s Cross Country Takes Sixth at UMass Dartmouth

Cross Country at UMass Ken O'Brien Invitational - WPI Cross Country 2022

North Dartmouth, MA --- The WPI men's cross country team raced to a sixth-place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. 

Paced by a third-place finish from senior David Reynolds (Andover, NH), the Engineers recorded a team score of 181, ranking as the third-best Division III finish in the 35-team, all-division event. Reynolds traversed the five-mile course in a time of 24:44.02, taking third overall out of 282 finishers and recording the top Division III time. 

Franklin Pierce's Wondu Summa and Assumption's Claudio Rocha finished 1-2, with times of 23:55.23 and 24:42.28, respectively. UMass Lowell took the team title with 65 points, followed by Conn College (115), and Franklin Pierce (127). 

After Reynolds, junior Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) was the next WPI finisher, crossing the line in 25:48.35. Fifth-year Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) finished 41st overall in 25:58.70 and junior Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME)'s time of 26:04.96 was good for 47th, giving the Engineers three top-50 finishers. 

Freshman Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) finished 63rd overall in a time of 26:28.02, while classmate Zach Chan (Stevenson Ranch, CA) made his collegiate debut with an 88th place finish in 26:51.22. Sophomore Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) completed the scoring with a 117th-place finish, going 27:16.94. 

Freshman Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) and graduate students Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) and Alex Simoneau (Attleboro, MA)  wrapped up the competitors for WPI. Skerry finished in 27:20.31 in his first collegiate race to rank 121st, while Yatsuhashi was 124th (27:26.45) and Simoneau was 142nd (27:43.03). 

WPI is off until October 1, when the team heads to Williams College for the Purple Valley Classic at 11:30am.
