North Dartmouth, MA --- The WPI women's cross country team finished fourth overall and first among Division III teams at the 38-team UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
The Engineers had all seven of its scoring runners finish 55th or better in the XX-competitor field. UMass Lowell won the event with 54 points, while Stonehill (120) and Southern New Hampshire (121) rounded out the top three.
Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) was WPI's top finisher for the second straight week, as the junior took 11th place overall, covering the 5k-course in 18:22.25. Graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) was next across the line for the Engineers, taking 18th place in 18:38.07.
Freshman Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH), senior Kaylee Gladu (Woonsocket, RI), and sophomore Elie Bowman (Montville, CT) wrapped up the scoring finishers for WPI. Reynolds was 45th in 19:08.37, Gladu was 53rd in 19:16.69, and Bowman took 55th in 19:18.06.
Graduate student Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) and senior Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) completed the competitor list for the Engineers. Whipkey was 60th in 19:19.91 while Kokernak was 83rd in 19:43.85.
The Engineers return to action on October 1, competing at the Purple Valley Classic at Williams College. The event begins at 11:30am.
