Brunswick, ME --- A pair of All-Region finishes paced the WPI women's cross country team to a program record seventh place result on Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Division III East Regional Championship at Bowdoin College.
Senior Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) and junior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) each earned their first career All-Region accolade, finishing in the top 35 of the strong field. Hadley was the first across the line for WPI, placing 27th in a time of 23:17.7, while Guilfoyle crossed in 32nd in a time of 23:27.4.
After Hadley and Guilfoyle, WPI's final five runners all finished in the top 30% of the 243-competitor field. Senior Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) was 51st, finishing in 23:55.5, while classmate Kaylee Gladu (Woonsocket, RI) took 53rd in 24:05.0.
Freshman Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) took 57th place in a time of 24:11.5, followed by senior Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) in 59th (24:14.5) and graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) placing 62nd in 24:18.6.
The Engineers' seventh-place team finish bested the eighth-place finish from a year ago as the program's top placement at the East Region meet. #7 MIT grabbed the team title, besting 35 teams with a total of 36 points. The top five was rounded out by #16 Bates (64), Brandeis (142), #28 Tufts (145), and Bowdoin (172). Bates senior Jillian Richardson (Auburn, ME) was the individual winner with a time of 21:41.02.
